Digital AES/SPDIF is a transport protocol for PCM-based samples. Timing issues can arise from consecutive "0"s, where the receiver expects a falling or rising voltage edge. In many common digital schemes, "0" represents no voltage, and "1" represents a positive voltage. If too many "0"s are sent, the receiver's clock can become out of sync, leading to the potential insertion or loss of a bit, which corrupts the digital stream. In such cases, the DAC must interpolate the lost data.
ION Digital interconnects are designed specifically to decrease errors created by lost data. They effectively assist the digital receiver in detecting the correct data stream and reducing interpolation from lost bits.
